About Me
Math is often seen as abstract, intimidating, or only meant for a certain kind of person. I started AshDoesMath to challenge that idea.
I’m Ashmeer, a Mathematics and Statistics student at the University of Toronto, originally from Trinidad and Tobago. Through my coursework, research, and experience as a Teaching Assistant, I’ve spent a lot of time not just learning math, but explaining it.
On this blog, I write about:
• What university-level math is actually like
• How to approach proofs and problem-solving
• What I’ve learned through teaching and studying math, and my project applying what I’ve learned.
A big reason I do this is to push back against the stereotype around people in math. There’s a perception that math is cold or inaccessible, but in reality, it’s just a structured way of thinking, and the people who study it aren’t as different as they’re often made out to be.
Outside of academics, I enjoy breaking down complex ideas into something more intuitive, whether that’s through writing, teaching, or everyday examples.
If you’re a student navigating math at university, or just curious about how it all works, feel free to explore the blog or start with some of my most popular posts.
